    1. Kristen Simmons has a gift for cultivating the sweetest of loves from the darkest of places In Pacifica, she s created a bleak, futuristic world that s utterly believable and terrifying, and yet from out of it springs the greatest of hope, carried on the back of its fierce main characters I was swept away.

    2. Once again, Kristen Simmons creates a vivid post apocalyptic world view, this time focusing on climate change and the effect it has on the future Full review to come.

    3. In Pacifica, Kristen Simmons has created a world where climate change has impacted the world so negatively that the world we know today doesn t exist any longer and I have to say, it is quite frightening that this could probably actually happen It s no secret that I love the stories that Simmons writes and this one is no different From start to finish I was immersed in this story of politics, friendship, and family Also the cover is amazing As always spoilers below. This book is told from two ver [...]

    4. Actual rating 3.5 starsThis kind of book isn t really what I gravitate towards I didn t love it, but I do respect it Despite the fact it didn t do much for me, I would happily recommend it to the right audience. It s a very topical book climate change has destroyed parts of the earth, and most of the west coast of North America is underwater i.e there are plenty of references to the California Islands I m sure lots of other places are underwater too, but our story is focused on this area We have [...]

    5. In a post apocolyptic world, nature is lashing out Humanity has had to change to survive, but with people, somethings never truly change Marin is a pirate in this new world She is a cut throat, sailing and dangerous buccaneer, and she also has been trapped away from her people on land with the land lovers then one day, and opportunity arrived Ross is the son of the President, prestigious and powerful He needs Marin to help him find and save his friend, and in the process they both get sucked int [...]

    6. I received this free eARC novel from Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review I admit, the word pirate got to me I am a sucker for pirate novels and have a high expectation of what the novel should consist of And the way this novel starts Not at all to do with pirates And I understood that, so I kept trucking along through the book, but when I got to 40%, I just couldn t do it any It was all political, giving the reader the backstory of what happened to the world with global warming and why th [...]

    7. This is a hard one because Kristen Simmons writes beautifully, the characters are interesting, and I like the idea of the world she s created, particularly because of the poignant significance it has to her own heritage and the WWII internment camps of the Japanese, a dark part of our history That said, this book didn t really work for me I couldn t get into the story and the pacing, and I m sad because I was very much looking forward to this book I have a feeling though that others will like it [...]

    8. This book covers some really important topics climate change, the Japanese internment, political corruption, etc so I really wanted to love it And I do love those parts and how they re covered and dealt with But overall, the plot just didn t work for me The synopsis sounds amazing but for some reason, I was just bored in a lot of places Even with the constant action, the story just didn t flow very well for me And I hate saying that because I think this book will be loved by a lot of people and [...]

    9. This fascinating teen novel is sure to give environmentalists nightmares, set in the world after the Melt has raised sea levels to dangerous heights Marin is a young woman who ekes out a living using her skills as a sailor and scavenger while navigating ocean waters filled with debris Added to the mix is a plan to evacuate some portions of the population to the island of Pacifica, promised to be a paradise for its inhabitants When you mix a romantic interest, danger, political intrigue and a her [...]

    10. I just couldn t get into the story I think Kristen Simmons is an incredibly talented author, and this won t affect me picking up her books in the future.I think the political aspect of the novel is well thought out and very well possible for our future, but it took me a long time to get my bearings on who was who and what exactly was defining each group This took a lot of the enjoyment of reading away from me it was too much to parse out.I m sure lovers of post apocalyptic adventures will dig in [...]

    11. Wow, this book was amazing It was very intense with constant action that rarely ceased and the really subtle and believable romance that slowly developed between the two main characters was so sweet This book is very relatable to our world today but at the same time fully engrossed me in the imaginary setting of the future I need to go back and read everything Kristen Simmons has ever written now

    12. pre read So, I read the February SLJ review of this, and saw this hilarious tidbit regarding this easily guessable romantic relationship view spoiler spoiler Although readers may be tempted to ship the two boys, Adam and Ross, the author creates a very tame romance between Marin and Ross Is that her professional reviewer way of saying she ships the other ship Been there, done that hide spoiler br br br br

    13. This was so intense that I could NOT put it down The sailing details were particularly interesting, and I loved the ending At this point, I will read anything Simmons writes Just like Metaltown, she has created characters I couldn t help but find myself attached to and hoping for happiness in spite of so many struggles and obstacles they are either born or basically imprisoned into and the romance is wonderful.

    14. Thank you to Edelweiss and Tor Teen for the E ARC copy of Pacifica.Pacifica reminded me a little of The Diabolic in its back drop of political family issues We have two very different main characters that are family oriented and have strong, loyal ties to those families The pirate and sea aspect of the story didn t play as much of a role as I thought it would Kristen Simmons is a great writer and she does an amazing job with making you understand the territory in which Pacifica take place I can [...]

    15. We received an arc of this at Grand Rapids Comic Con, where we heard Kristen speak It s an incredible read full of interesting themes, fascinating characters, and a story you can t stop reading yes, I finished it at 3am But what stands out most, for me, is that you truly GET the characters the motivations, thoughts, and actions I didn t want this book to end and really want a sequel

    16. 4 STARSPlot 4.5Writing Style 4Characters 4Romance 3Unputdownable level 4I loved it The scenes were so intense I only wish there was chemistry between the two main characters.

    17. I thought this was a very good book I also love how the author phrased everything and I think the story line was great and interesting.
